Presence Of Absence

Iulia Filipovscaia and Laura Napier

Screen shot 2011-06-07 at 13.54.37

For one night, and one day Presence Of Absence will exist in Notting Hill.  An event, an experience, an absence presented in Raj Curry’s new residential space Visualist Gallery, Pembridge Crescent.

2nd Coup D’etat, Presence of Absence is part of Iulia Filipovscaia’s ongoing monthly pop-ups in unusual central London locations.  It follows the success of Filipovscaia’s first pop-up exhibition 1st Coup D’etat, at one of her patrons Prem Thanabalasingham’s Chelsea home, May 2011.

The show by emerging artists Iulia Filipovscaia and Laura Napier has been co-curated by curator Marina Doritis and will explore text based work, absence, and rejection of the visually representational. Filipovscaia will be showing new conceptual photographic prints, and Napier will be showing new site-specific sculpture and text pieces.

We are very excited to announce collaboration with pop-up restaurateur Jack Brooks who will be creating canapés for the private view.  Brooks of the celebrated Fork Me pop-up restaurant and annual Stoke Newington hog roasts specialises in producing creative gastronomic experiences.

Iulia Filipovscaia is a postgraduate of Goldsmiths College.  She was shot listed for the Salon Photo Prize 2011, and her work is included in prestigious collections and has been widely exhibited including at the 176 Zabludowicz Collection, London.

Laura Napier is a postgraduate of the Royal College of Art.  She exhibits widely and was the 2006 winner of the Madame Tussauds Group Fine Art Award, and one of the youngest female artists to have been awarded the 2007/8 Berwick-Upon-Tweed Gymnasium Gallery Fellowship.

EXHIBITION RUNS FROM 9 – 30 JUNE

Is the six degrees of separation theory the key to making this world a better place?

“Yes, maybe, I’d like to think so,” says Kevin Morosky. “The idea that we are so closely connected is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard. I love the idea that we are all equal, we just have different lives.” Once we remind ourselves of this, how can the world not be perceived and feel like it’s a better place?

“I myself do float between different circles,” continues Morosky, “but I have never looked at these circles as dynamics that separate us, more as clogs that turn the circle closest to it. These relationships and their differences can give birth to motivation and spark a personal journey to a new existence. We all need each other in one way or another.”

Morosky is a point and shoot photographer working on 35-mm, in the realm of documentary and reportage. He has most recently been working with a range of artists, from musicians such as Jack Penate, Ghostpoet, Marques Toliver and Jessie Wares, to sculptor Andrew Logan, playwright Polly Sternham, and actresses Mischa Barton,Billie Piper and Ashley Madekwe.

The Scoop…

By on May 20, 2011

We have to admit we all love free activities, gifts, etc, and the bonus of it being good, well you can’t complain.

I find myself loving the Scoop, it never stops to entertain everyone and as its outdoors and the weather seems to be letting the sun stay, might as well try and get a tan out of it. (Even though my pale skin does not really seem to agree with this)

The Scoop has a range of performances and activities starting, you can find:

From May 25th for a few days only, The Tragedy of Macbeth.

Chickenshed with its performance of ‘Crime of the Century’ on June the 22nd for 2 days only

Free film screenings from September 14th- 30th.

There are various great events between these dates but I have left these as a mystery and for you to go and explore, or you can also find out on the Scoop’s website – morelondon.co.uk/scoop
