Best of the West
by Kaitlyn Bullen on 29 May 2015
Here in Ballad land, our tongues are firmly in our cheeks this morning as we present photographer Kelly Rose Hammond’s and stylist Thomas Ramshaw’s vision of the best of the west. The perfect combination of the styling, set and prop design, and the carefree attitude of the models makes for a totally playful, totally perfect shoot.
With a nod to the 70’s vibe that is permeating current trends, the shoot gives this aesthetic a new twist by combining it with elements of mid-west Americana. Think classic, hard wearing work fabrics such as denim and leather, and traditional garments like dungarees all brought to life by a very welcome showering of sequins and rhinestones (we’ll never say no to a little bit of sparkle, especially when the end results are this dreamy). The styling is flamboyant, but in the best possible way.
At the same time overtly sexual and innocent, hyper-real yet relaxed, the overwhelmingly playful quality to all of the photos is one we can’t get enough of. We can’t help but do a little smile when we look at these pictures, and can’t quite put our finger on why this is – the expression of the models? The super-fun styling? The almost child-like set pieces? Regardless of the reason, thanks, you guys!
