Ballad Of

Lola Hakimian

by Tessa Bolsover on 18 May 2015

Lola Hakimian’s photographs read like a diary. Based in Paris, her work offers a glimpse into a perplexing world where reality and subjectivity merge and objects become vessels for emotion. The photographs are an attempt to connect to a world outside of oneself. Interiority is projected outwards, giving emotional weight to the animate and inanimate alike. A split pomegranate, rushing water, wax spilling down a candle, a bizarre braided horsetail, loose change left idle on the stove. The images may seem disjointed, but they’re tied together by the thread of perspective, a collection of intimate details from a stranger’s life that resonates outwards, and echoes into the lives of others.
