Pink Pistols Exhibition
by Laura Coughlan on 24 June 2015
Last week we headed to Dalston's Doomed Gallery for the much anticipated opening night of the Pink Pistols Exhibition. Curated by two dreamy photographers and regulars to our Ballad Of... pages, Simone Steenberg and Lolo Bates, Pink Pistols aims to celebrate the exploration of the female body through photography in unconventional and abstract forms. The ultimate celebration of girl power; we could not get enough of the majestic & simply captivating imagery.
With women often portrayed through fashion imagery as passive, superficial and a product of the male gaze; Pink Pistols provide a refreshing interpretation of femininity and gender roles. From obscured faces to contorted bodies - the women are able to present their sexuality in a way of their own choosing. With super empowering content that is intwined in gorgeously intriguing and beautiful aesthetics; we love how the name Pink Pistols itself reflects two universally opposing entities. A playful juxta position of femininity and violence; there is a beautiful sense of rule breaking, of freedom. We can not wait to see what the future has in store for these talented ladies.
