Claire & Cam hit the thrift

By on January 29, 2011

We spent the morning rummaging, and just look what we found… Bit of Blackpool;

it was tough to resist some of the treats on offer…

Cam is redecorating, and settled on a picture and a stunning full sized globe lamp…

I went for this amazing ashtray and book…

with the lovely little inscription:

Could Horence Gatland be a fitting name for a future Ballad…?

Get Down and Get With: Revere

A new feature for 2011, we’re bringing you new fresh talent for you to ‘get down and get with’. Yes, it’s not highly original but for Christs sake, this online music media market is as saturated with gunk as Lady Gaga’s nose [pores]… so i am keeping it simple. This is basically music that has come into our musical lives, (though admittedly mainly mine) that it would be cruel not to share with you, not to mention lonely (or that I am probably playing catch up with cos you told me about em).

Kicking it off are Revere… a band with what seems like 5000 members - if I am honest here, I think I have recently started to a little blind, or ‘fuzzy’ in the eyes anyway (see earlier posts re 10 000 big ‘uns).

As a recent Londoner, I saw the head boy of this band do a solo set in a pub on the VERY FIRST SUNDAY I was here, and it was the first musician of the afternoon that anyone sat through… it was that kinda pub. (There were cupcakes, which no one bought - words escape me). And it was a folky kinda thing, which everyone knows is what Sunday’s are all about. And Church - by which I mean, folk music is best served in churches as a matter of the laws of acoustics. School assemblies are the opposite in this regard.

So a voice to hold a room of fidgety (non cake eating) Sunday pubbers is a winning start. The band have a wide sound which include mixtures in marching beats, the fiddle, accordions, (pia-pia-)pianos, a tonne of action on the horn(s) and what I think is an organ - not seen on stage since the 70s (except for all those other bands). With hints of balkan themes their songs are meandering, atmospheric and tingling layers that breathe songs that aren’t over-scaled and epic, but intimate.

This is extra ‘prima’ good (as the Spanish say - I imagine) because they’ll be playing the free Ballad live art part-y in March at Jaguar Shoes.

And here are the 5000
