Emma Woolrych

By on September 30, 2011

Sydney born photographer Emma Woolrych’s work is quite simply stunning.

With a mix of softly coloured and beautiful black and white images, it is clear that Emma’s work is all about light and vibrancy.

Growing up between Australia, England and America, surrounded by the variety and beauty of the world, Emma was inspired from a young age to become a photographer. And it is this diversity and individuality that Emma believes to be the biggest fashion statement of them all.

We couldn’t agree more.

Yaron Steinberg

By on September 29, 2011

Jerusalem born artist Yaron Steinberg describes himself as a very “crafty artist…I like to use materials that I can touch and feel”, and this certainly shows in his work.

Using a mix of techniuques, Yaron has developed some beautifully intruiging and interesting creations that we just cant stop looking at.

Settee Days…oh we love.

By on September 28, 2011

One day, the day will come when our beautiful publication’s head quaters will become less cosy than it is right now. You may or may not know that the Ballad Girls work from Lindsey & Claire’s granny flat (yes next door to Nanny Floff) in the comfort of the front living room with tea on tap and endless amounts Hob Nob’s.

Alas one day we will have to move to a bigger and dare we say, better place. As Ballad Of…grows we will have to grow with it and we will have to actually get dressed to go to work hehe. The exchange of relaxing in sofa‘s will be replaced by hardback chairs and our makeup less faces will be powdered and blushed on the bus on the way to a ‘proper’ work environment. We aren’t going to lie… we don’t know how we feel about this, maybe we should start a revolution and people should start taking a leaf out of our books and work from their cosy little settees?

I mean, look at our gorgeous sofa, why would we want to leave this? We KNOW we have to grow up, but we don’t want to. We don’t want to leave our flat, we don’t want to have to get out of our pj’s and we certainly don’t want to have seperate emails. We love our little Ballad Bubble and the people in it, all thats missing is a dog or two.

Lots of Ballad Love,

Lindsey & Claire

Nanae Kawahara

Nanae Kawahara is a Japanese illustrator who is currently working in our very own city London.

She’s one very productive little lady; drawing, running her own market stall on Brick Lane and creating little books of her lovely illustrations.

Her drawings are just the kind of cutesy thing we love here at Ballad, especially the ones of little puppies - look how adorable they are!

Let’s make this years Christmas even better!

By on September 27, 2011

So everyone who knows the Ballad Girls pretty much know that we love Christmas. Actually we’re obsessed with it, we can’t wait for that day when we step out of our front door and its a crisp morning and the Christmas spirit is in the air.

Last year, we went to town with the whole thing, we took a trip out and got the tree (on a very hungover but fabulous festive day), we decorated it whilst eating mince pies, and we even had our own Christmas cups with snowmen on (which we have obviously continued to use all year through)

It was a pretty incredible time of year, and guess what…theres 88 days left until the next one! Yaaaay. With this in mind, we’re already planning what could make this year even more special and after a trip and a browse of Marks and Spencer’s website the only conclusion had to be a Christmas hamper. Can you imagine how satisfying having one of those delicious hampers filled with wine, mince pies, biscuits, cheese etc, the options are just endless. And lets face it, Marks and Spencers do THE best food at Christmas ever.

Excited Ballad Ladies on our Christmas morning

You might think we’re a bit crackers (get it?…crackers hehe) at getting THIS excited so early on, I mean we haven’t even got our winter boots on yet, but we just can’t get enough of that Christmas feeling. We even have the countdown applications on our phones and writing this post has inspired us to have a break from Ballad work and head to Marks and Spencers to see if there mince pies are all ready for sale!

So everyone, its time to get excited, its time to get those advent calendars and dream of mulled wine on a cold crisp evening and its most certainly time for buying Christmas Hampers!! Let’s make this year an incredible one and lets hope its everything we wish for.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Chloe Coltinski <3

“I love to express myself creatively in any way I can from illustration to make up art. I paint, make things and conjure up some strange but very exciting ideas.”

We love London based artist Chloe Coltinski’s attitude to art just as much as we love her stunning work.

With finely drawn fashion illustrations, beautifully captured images and ventures into the “weird and wonderful world of makeup” Chloe is set to become one of our favourites here at Ballad.

Ballad Of 2

Ballad Of 3

Ballad Of 5

In her illustrations Chloe loves to capture the essence of a beautiful girl bursting with style, attitude and independence, whilst exploring texture, line and colour in a variety of mediums. She believes the most interesting stories are found in the detail.

“All I need is a blank canvas to work on and a little imagination and I am away.”

We hope you enjoy.

It’s Joel Millerchip again…WOO.

By on September 25, 2011

We featured the wonderful Joel Millerchip the other week (you can see it here) and we had a recent little update of his latest exhibition at the Pure Gallery in Newcastle. We are soooo gutted to have missed this, it looks like a night of amazingness and if you’re in Newcastle over the next four days (yes hurry) then you’re still in with a chance of seeing his work up close and personal!
