Giulia Mangione’s Scenes of Summer

By on October 31, 2011

Giulia Mangione has been on Ballad before. The way she captures the sun months is so tantalising we can feel the rays on our skin. And thats something that always makes us smile. A bit of nostalgia for another summer gone by and we look forward to snuggling up by the fire. We love a girl who shoots on film. It’s the ultimate beauty, right?

Little Book of Horrors…You Terror

You probably won’t believe us, but we’re going to tell you anyway. Approximately two weeks ago our printer finalised our print date with us, All fine and dandy right? Well you were WRONG!! Take a deep breath…but on the scariest day of the year, Hallow’s Eve, our Little Book of Horrors issue is off to print. Coincidence? We think not. Is everyone prepared for the scariest issue yet? Make sure you don’t read it alone in the dark or you may have a fright (or two).

Happy Halloween everybody, we hope your evening is as scary as can be…here’s our Halloween last year to put you in a creepy mood. Mwahahahahaaaaaa.

Religious Milk

Eeee…we are very happy to be attending this event, I mean, we seriously can’t wait!! Justyna Sowa is hosting her very first exhibition in London Town, and guess what? You’re all invited!! More info below…

Picture 28

This November will see the launch of SOWA’s first solo UK exhibition - “Religious Milk”. SOWA’s latest works, originating from the foundations and myths of Catholic religion, will be on display from 24th November until 1st December at the 3 Blind Mice Bar in London.

Everyone is invited to attend the exhibition, by RSVPing here.

The black & white works put the religious traditions in the spotlight, mixing and merging them with ideas from popular culture, political ideologies and the lives of artists long-gone. All of the artworks present intricate detailing of the pencil work, filling the paper with doves, clocks and musical notes, and on the other hand contrasting with stars of David, crosses and flowing the religious milk.

The artist herself - SOWA - is a young illustrator, now launching her creative career in the UK. She specialises in hand-drawn pencil and ink illustrations of a symbolic, surrealist and quirky nature, from creating creepy cartoon creatures and psychedelic Asian lovers to the expressive religious and cultural scenes.

Starting at the 3 Blind Mice Bar, the works will then embark upon a London journey across a number of venues, to reach wide creative audiences of London art enthusiasts.

More works of SOWA can be viewed at www.justynasowa.com. For regular updates on SOWA’s artistic work, you can “Like” her on Facebook (www.facebook.com/SowaFrolicks) and follow on Twitter (www.twitter.com/justyna_sowa).

Alphabet Bags.

Why does winter creep up on us every time? Why do we have the iPhone v gloves/dark mornings v dark evenings/snow lovers v snow haters debates every year?! Here at Ballad we are winter LOVERS… up until mid Feb, then we’re summer grumps. But right now, we’re head over heels with the winter vibe. And what better way to celebrate our re visited love than with these beautiful embrace-the-cold bags by the too cute Lucas & Hayley over at Alphabet Bags?

YEY! BABY IT’S COLD OUTSIDE!! We’re going to be rosy cheeked and humming all winter long!! They have some really uplifting slogans, and we want them all!! They’re such a bargin we intend to GET them all!! This one reminds me of an exhibition i saw when i was dead little called “You look beautiful like that” I remember thinking it was the kindest thing to say to another person. Maybe this bag is the one for me…
