By on June 23, 2010

Jun 24-Jul 4

A two-week festival of guided walks, exhibitions, street installations, cycle rides, boat rides, debates, design workshops and markets celebrating London’s buildings and public spaces.

The theme of the festival is ‘The Welcoming City’, with a focus on different areas over three weekends.

The ‘West End Hub: Nash Ramblas’ (June 19, 20) is centred around Portland Place, Regent Street and the Royal Parks and highlights possibilities for an improved pedestrian route based on John Nash’s 1810 plan for Regent’s Park and Regent Street.

The ‘East End Hub: High Street 2012′ (June 26, 27) focuses on the area between Whitechapel and Stratford, looking at regeneration in the area.

The ‘Southbank and Bankside Hub’ looks at the area between the Thames and the Elephant and Castle.

There’s also ‘Love Your Street’, designed to encourage residents to improve neighbourhoods, and the ‘Urban Island Project’, which aims to map and revive empty spaces across London, as well as showcases of international architecture and a festival of student architecture. The programme is lengthy so visit the website to find the events that interest you most
