Events are like buses…
…As im they always come in threes. Splitting into groups we made sure we attended all three events, running around London like mad girls and boys we actually managed it! So after a swift visit to the Creatives in Residence at the hospital club we jumped on the 68 and went to one of our favourite galleries The Orange Dot.
This months treat was fantastic and the story behind the images truly breathtaking. Stephen King’s photography is being exhibited there, a piece called Lewis’s 5th Floor: A Department Story.
Looking around the room at his work, we entered an untouched department store from the 1950s with pink Christmas trees, 50′s decor and an old lady hair salon. Having studied photography we were in our element and it sparked the age old conversation…digital or film?
Digital cameras are EVERYWHERE, we all have one, they’re easy and cheap…those were the days when we had free processing and printing at uni.
We’re all in agreement that film is beautiful right? It has a something extra special that digital cannot even touch up, but its just soooo expensive to do in this day and age. For us, taking photos on a film camera is a treat, its exciting and very much a rare thing for us.
As with most people’s, digital has taken over our lives (but not our hearts) and the art of photography has made its transition from a delicate and time consuming process to everything being done on a computer. We don’t get that feeling of suspense when you’re in a dark room waiting for your image to appear in front of your eyes.
With 50/50 feelings from our discussion there are pros and cons to both digital and film…so our conclusion, download a vintage app for your phone camera, learn those levels in photoshop and hey presto, best of both worlds hehe!
Now to the pub for some birthday celebrations and St Paddys Day fun. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JACLYNNNN!!!
